Rev Sue explained how it is possible to worship God in the midst of pain because Gods knows and understands pain at a deeper level. Jesus suffered physical violence at the hands of his captors, and He was beaten, violated and murdered. He fully understands the pain of those who suffer violence at the hands of their attackers. Jesus, however, did not seek revenge. His suffering shows us that the cross was a place where sin and pain were transformed. Jesus absorbed the pain so that it was not transmitted to others and so the cross became a place of healing, forgiveness and reconciliation. We can worship God in our pain because God has chosen to identify with the worst possible pain in the world. In the midst of such pain, we are called to prophetic action. This means speaking God’s Word into the situation so that we become instruments of healing in a broken world.
