NEWSLETTER 22/2010
31 August
Dear Parents
- Two consecutive days of 30° plus temperatures confirm the proximity of Spring but we are not naïve enough to believe that we do not have any more cold spells ahead of us. I trust that most of you were able to spend some quality time with your daughters over Half Term. Our Form Vl girls have been in examination mode since last Tuesday and are generally handling this stressful period in a mature manner.
- Our Cultural Festival, held prior to Half Term, was a great success. The girls eagerly participated in the wide range of activities on offer and I was particularly impressed by the quality of the productions at the Interhouse Play Competition. The scripts, written by girls in the various Houses, dealt with sensitive topics in a very mature fashion. The quality of acting was impressive and was appropriately appreciated by the rest of the girls. Thank you to those parents who attended one or more of our cultural events.
- Our Form V girls have recently returned from their Spirit of Adventure Camp at Babanango. I have not as yet engaged with any of them about the Camp but presume that they benefited from it. The Form lll girls leave for their Camp at Mseni tomorrow.
- Today is Father Stuart Mennigke’s last working day at St Anne’s. The College said farewell to him at a Eucharist this morning and the whole staff enjoyed a special “Farewell Lunch”. Stuart will be attending a spiritual retreat over the next three days. We continue to pray for him, trusting that God will soon indicate what he wishes Stuart to do in his “life after St Anne’s”.
- We also continue to pray for a resolution to the Public Service pay disputes. While St Anne’s has been fortunate to be able to press ahead with its school programme, this has not been true of the majority of schools in South Africa. Our medical services, too, need to return to some sort of normality as soon as possible.
Kind regards
Dave Arguile
