IN CHAPEL THIS MORNING

Mr Van Niekerk’s talk this morning was entitled “Finding Rest for your Soul”. He acknowledged the busy lives we lead and read two passages from the Bible which invite us to draw aside and find rest in Jesus. He encouraged girls to use the Chapel at any time as a quiet place to retreat from their busyness and spend time in the presence of God. It is in the stillness that we often hear from God and find direction to steer us through difficult times. Mr Van Niekerk then played the song by Crowder – “Come as you Are” which encourages us to remember that ‘earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal’.

ST ANNE'S PUPIL PERFORMS AT LAUNCH OF MMM

On 24th April, ‘67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela’, an initiative that was started 4 years ago, launched the largest Portrait Blanket in the World depicting the face of Madiba, which is only visible via satellite. St Anne’s pupil, Ella Grealy, wrote the lyrics to a song that she dedicated to the charity started by her Godmother, Carolyn Steyn. Ella was invited to perform the anthem live, together with the prison choir and Wouter Kellerman, a Grammy Award Winning Flautist, at the launch of the MMM – Massive Mandela Masterpiece – held at Zonderwater C Maximum Prison in Cullinan.

IN CHAPEL THIS MORNING

This morning's Chapel Service centered around our Social Awareness Week that launched today. The committee took the opportunity to introduce the school to the objectives of the week. Through the use of two ice breaker games, the school was encouraged to embrace the week and all that is on offer. You can never know everything about a topic and it is good to be able to learn and unlearn our perceptions on a subject. With the theme of this week being “The Power of a Story”, we were encouraged to listen to other people’s stories in order to grow out of our ignorance and become more socially aware. Follow updates from the girls on their Facebook page at the link below:

IN CHAPEL THIS MORNING

Rev Susan looked at the concept of human dignity which is “the natural worth of a person as a creature formed in the image and likeness of God”. A short video was shown in which Pastor John Ortberg explained more fully the meaning of dignity. Dignity affects how we treat others and when we see that everyone is made in the image of God, we respond differently to people. Rev Susan challenged each of us to find a group of people who we normally fail to acknowledge and to make a point of greeting them. When you are acknowledged by others, it is a great blessing, and it makes you feel worthy. To watch the full video, click on the link.

IN CHAPEL THIS MORNING

Today our community gathered, after a lovely long holiday, for our Easter Eucharist Service to celebrate the Risen Christ. Rev Susan spoke on the theme of acceptance and approval. She pointed out that acceptance is about love, and approval is about judgement. Jesus, whose resurrection we are celebrate, got to know and love people from all walks of life, particularly those who were considered social outcasts. He treated people with respect and restored their dignity in a world where they were judged and condemned. We often judge people from a position of arrogance and this prevents love. Jesus calls us to a life of acceptance and love for others, and we can do this by opening our lives to God’s spirit. When God breathes through us, we can become instruments of love to change the world.
